The name of your new department is Global IPR Portfolio Management – a part of FLSmidth’s Global Legal department. With locations in countries all over the world, you will be based in Valby, Denmark.
FLSmidth has decided to invest significant capital into researching and developing its products, thereby further expanding its intellectual property portfolio and the need to protect it in the coming years. This is a relatively new department, so you will have a great opportunity to influence your position and the further development of the department.
Advise on patent and trademark issues
The Global IPR Portfolio Management department is responsible for managing and protecting the FLSmidth Group’s patent and trademark portfolio as well as know-how, trade secrets, copyright, utility rights and design rights. With direct reference to the General Manager based in the US, you will be responsible for advising FLSmidth personnel in Denmark and its European subsidiaries in terms of patent and trademark related issues. This includes advising on chance of success of obtaining patents and trademarks as well as advising on the violation and enforcement of patent and trademark rights in addition to other IP matters.
In close cooperation with the R&D department and our Patent Engineers, you will work on patentability of new inventions and you will draft and negotiate agreements for R&D projects. Further, you will prepare, file and prosecute trademark applications before the Danish Patent and Trademark Agency, the European Trademark Office and abroad. In addition, you will have the opportunity to argue oppositions and appeals in connection with our patents at the EPO in Munich – or its other branches – and you will be advising and training personnel at subsidiaries across Europe, you can expect approximately 30-50 travel days per year.
Legal degree and experience with patents
You have a legal degree combined with several years of trademark and patent experience (in particular in regards to prosecution/opposition proceedings before the EPO). Ideally, you also have trademark experience, knowledge of patent and trademark database software, and patent and trademark infringement litigation experience. While you will not be litigating these matters yourself, you will manage these cases on behalf of the company. On a personal level you are easy-going and thrive as part of an informal group. You will be working in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing deadlines and priorities, so you must be able to adjust quickly from one project to another.
Seek the good working life
As an FLSmidth employee, you will enjoy a wide range of benefits, including individual training and further education, an attractive salary package with good holiday and maternity/paternity options, a solid pension and insurance plan, massage, chiropractics and physiotherapy, access to holiday cottages, a good senior programme and much more – plus you can buy meals to take home from work.
