SPOR 2010 – Festival for Contemporary Music and Sound Art

27 Feb 2010
Start time: 07/05-2010 Location: Granhøj Dans, and others
End time: 09/05-2010
Aarhus
Denmark

SPOR welcomes you to a festival of ‘exploded music’. Over the course of three days, from Friday the 7th until Sunday the 9th of May 2010, the public will experience musical works that have been disassembled and which challenge musical expression by means of other media and means of expression: movement, surroundings and visuals.

SPOR’s guest curator for 2010 is the British composer Joanna Bailie (b. 1973, resident in Brussels). Joanna Bailie is active as both composer, installation and performance artist and often collaborates with scenographers and choreographers. She says the following of her creative practice:

Over the past few years I have become increasingly interested in the idea of transcription and of the music which is lost and the artefacts which are gained during such procedures.

SPOR 2010 will show musical transcriptions which aim not merely at mimicking but rather at strengthening musical expression through the inclusion of other practices.

SPOR 2010 will be a festive fireworks of innovative works and artistic practices.

We look forward to presenting a number of important composers, ensembles and sound-artists from locally and abroad: Peter Ablinger, Trond Reinholdtsen, Mozart(!), Åsa Stjerna, Jacob Kirkegaard, Jana Winderen, Århus Sinfonietta, SCENATET, Trio Aristos, Tape That, David Helbich, Páll Ivan Pállson, Christopher Fox, Helmut Lachenmann, Xavier Le Roy, Mette Ingvartsen and many more.

Welcome to SPOR 2010!

About SPOR

SPOR thematizes, actualizes and promotes the arts. SPOR creates a platform for stronger connections to the international sound art and music scenes – and therefore fruitful exchange that can inspire artists and further develop the Danish contemporary music.

SPOR’s mission is to present national and international sound art and contemporary music of high quality. The festival should at the same time engage and stimulate debate by dealing with themes and issues that are crucial to our time.

Aarhus has a long tradition as a forward looking and visionary platform for the contemporary music and sound art. This position was especially established via the annual NUMUS festival – established and realized by the composer Karl Aage Rasmussen over a period of 25 years.

SPOR took place for the first time in 2005 under the leadership of Thomas Agerfeld Olsen with the composer Niels Rønsholdt as curator. Since June 2007 Anne Marqvardsen and Anna Berit Asp Christensen have been the festival directors of SPOR.
