Unemployment in Denmark decreased by 900

31 Mar 2010

The latest figures from Statistics Denmark show that the long lines of unemployed people get shorter and shorter. Unemployment has fallen by 900 from January to February. This means that unemployment is now 4.1 percent of the workforce, equivalent to 115,700 people.

Since November 2009, unemployment has dropped by 2,400 persons or the equivalent of two percent.

The figures also show that the feared youth unemployment seems to go the right way now. To everyone’s surprise, it is especially the young people who found employment. Among 16-24 – year olds, unemployment has decreased by 7 percent, while it has increased by 3 percent for the 60-64 year-olds.

But although the figures are positive, one must keep in mind that simultaneously, an increase in gross unemployment can be detected, as people in work-enhancing activities are also counted. The increase here is a total of 1,100 people.
