The fallout of the recession was felt strongly last year with a total of 54,000 more people joining the unemployment queue, according to recent figures released by Statistics Denmark.
The figures show that 1500 more people were unemployed in December, bringing the total match of 2009 to 121,400 or 4.3 percent of the population.
Unemployment reached its lowest level in June 2008, just before the economic crisis began to come into force when only 45,800 people were unemployed. Since then, unemployment has risen by a whopping 165 percent.
In the latest figures for the 4. quarter of 2009 young people were proved to be the least affected by the downturn with a 1 percent increase in unemployment, while unemployment for thoose in the 60-64 age group increased by 15 percent during the period.
